Cookies to Fawn Over

Cookies to Fawn Over -

I made the sweetest baby deer cookies to give to my niece the other day and I'm so happy with how they turned out. I say that because every time I pipe cookies, I just get nervous before shooting them with royal icing. I'm much better with a pencil. They became totally cute though. Yay and Happy Holidays!

Here is a link to the wild strawberry cookie I used. I love the soft shape and I admired on pinterest instagram and for a while ... so I finally ordered me.

So ... Here's sugar cookie and icing recipe Royal I used.

You will need royal icing in brown, green, pink and white. I just guesstimated how much of each. Brown and White with more, some green and a small amount of pink.

Now for decoration ... You can totally hose deer in one color, or give them more detail. I went for more details, but I did not take risks on screwing, so I used an edible black ink pen to write to draw on the cookies first. This is much easier than improvisation for me.

When you are ready to pipe, simply trace the outlines with icing. Brown first.

While the outline was still dry, I carefully Pipeline a little pink ear and use a toothpick to gently force the royal icing in the shape I wanted.

Then I filled in rear areas, the belly and the white face. I have not used cherry preview here, I just filled atmosphere and together with royal icing which is slightly more fluid consistency that contour piping.

Now the fun part. With Brown said, go ahead and fill the body with the consistency of brown royal icing flood. And while the glaze is still wet, pipe teeny tiny dots with white royal icing consistency flood.

I like to use a decorator bag fitted with a No. 2 tip to sketch and usually a small squeeze bottle when filling with color.

Okay, now let dry. Let dry. dry.

Then you can draw on the shoes with a brown (or black) edible ink pen writing.

Finally faces, attach tiny nose with royal icing as glue. I used rainbow sprinkles smart. Brown are the perfect little nose.

See ... super cute. I'm easy on the eyes and drawn closed with long eyelashes again using the edible black ink writing pen. Sooo eyes closed hand and make them look even sweeter.

The trees are easy peasy. Cover the surface of the cookie in the green royal icing and let dry completely. Then pipe on wavy lines of white frosting and sprinkle with sanding sugar white icing before drying.

You do not have to decorate the tiny trees, but they will make the next step lovely tree-mendously.

See what I mean?

Okay, back to the cut deer and trees forms the dough and throw in a few round circles that are a little wider than the deer legs. Use the tawny-cutting take notes in the dough that correspond to the distance legs and enter a straw. Press the straw in cookie dough a few times to remove the pulp where the legs go.

After the circles cook, you can reuse the straw to immediately remove any cookie that may have spread. The openings in the circle make it easier for the deer to stand while you attach to the base

Not shown :. Pipes and fill in the circles of white royal icing and sprinkle with sanding sugar. Then, when the circles and decorated deer are completely dry, fill the holes with a small amount of melted white candy coating (it dries faster than royal icing). Place a deer decorated in candy coating and secured in place while the coating sets. Then attach a small tree with more melted candy coating. Sprinkle the sanding sugar throughout the coating exposed so that it appears transparent to the rest of the basic cookie.

Enjoy!
