Mini Minions

Mini Minions -

Minion Cake Pops

Despicable Me 2 is coming soon (July 3, that is) and I made these mini Minions for the film. I was super excited to be asked to do because I know a lot of you wanted decorating ideas on them in the past.

So there. I hope you like them.

Cake Pops

crumbled cake. Icing. Mixed. And shaping. You guys know the drill.

But if you do not, I have a link at the bottom of the post for complete instructions on how to do them.

Minion Cake Pops

But the photos are much better, right.

Cake ball shapes

Ok, here's a little tip I want to share shaping. I think it really helps to get smoother edges. Once you roll your mixture into cake balls of equal size, you can use wax paper to help shape. I do it all the time for the forms that need sharper edges as boxes and more. You can simply drag the shape along a wax paper covered surface and turn.

And in the case of the bottles like these, begin to shape your ball rolls cakes by hand, then roll in a strip of waxed paper. Twist the ends, then press together while rolling on a flat surface for smooth walls. It works really well.

Yellow Candy Coating

After your cake balls are shaped and refrigerated until firm, it's time to dive ......

Despicable Me 2 Cake Pops

And decorate! The fun part.

Hi Carl, Tom and Tim!

Candy Eyes

I find these eye candy in two sizes and made to the servants of breath. I found them at Hobby Lobby if you have one in your area, but you can also use white, pieces of candy necklace M & M or white coating, even running for a similar look.

My first plan was to use the eyes as you see them, but I ended up turning instead. For two reasons ... one, the eyes of Minions are brown with black pupils so I could use the solid white side to shoot them. And two, if you turn the smaller eyes on the backs are flat instead of curved and more like their glasses were really high above their faces this way.

I know. Overkill and you can absolutely use black sides and they always look cute. But I wanted to try to make them look as close to the original as I could. Because I'm crazy.

Minions

... To decorate

  • Dip in the yellow coating and before the coating dries, attach an eye candy at the front and insert a few black or chocolate jimmies on top for hair.
  • for glasses, you can use licorice string to make the bands. Just cut to the length you need and join pop with a candy coating and let dry. Or pipe bands with black tinted coating candy.
  • Once dry, you can paint the rims of the glasses with silver luster dust and a small brush.
  • For combinations, gently turn the Minions off the stick so you can take them to other munchies. Immerse the fourth lower body of minion in blue candy coating and let dry.
  • To complete the combination, pipe bibs at the front with a toothpick or squeeze bottle and coating more blue candies. Use a toothpick to quickly smooth the surface before it dries. Then the straps pipe from the upper part of the overall bib.

Minion Cake Pops

Super cute.

  • To complete the decoration, draw eyes and a mouth with a pen in brown edible ink. Then fill the eyes with a black pen and points on the pupils with white candy coating. (Here's another tip when it comes to drawing on the candy coating with an edible ink pen. You can use a toothpick to gently scrape the surface of pop. This can help you create more straight lines if spoil while pulling. you can also use a toothpick to shave away candy coating and make smooth edges or more straight lines. just do not press too hard.)
  • you can totally stop there and they'll be great but if you are compulsive and crazy like me, you can add more details to your Minions.
  • Use a toothpick to apply the coating in a yellow line on the side of each pop for the arms and add a black confetti sprinkle attached at the end to the gloves.
  • Apply two points of blue coating on the bottom of each body minion and attach two black sunflower seeds coated for shoes.
  • Draw two black dots for global buttons with your pen with edible ink and attach a black confetti sprinkle on all fronts. Use a toothpick dipped slightly in the blue liner and draw a G on each confetti pinch for their patch. Again. They will be as gentle arms and legs and you will not be hairless when finished. :)

Despicable Me 2 Cake Pops

Minions! Yay!

But I also did something more film.

Cake balls

I started with these forms.

Circles. Easy enough.

And really rounded cones. You can use the trick for those of waxed paper.

Agnes Cake Pops

The balls have become little Agnes.

So sweet. And these are clean because I used candy to decorate. The rest was all melted candy coating. So you can do a lot with a little.

Agnes

  • To Agnes, make a small indentation on the front of each ball. It's all about the details. Printing will help them look at faces more instead of round bales. Dip in the tinted coating candy using pink or white peach and create a flesh color.
  • In her ponytail, I use strings of licorice again, cut into small pieces. To make it easy to attach, I made the first ponytails by dotting some black candy coating on waxed paper and fixing licorice. This makes the ponytail a unit and it was much easier than trying to fix the pieces on top of the rounded pop.
  • When ponytails are ready, dip the top of the head of each Agnes in the coating black candy and tie her ponytail just above before the coating dries.

Agnes Cake Pops

  • For his sweet little face, draw eyes and mouth with a pen in brown edible ink. Draw on eyebrows and sprinkle on the eyes and lashes with black candy coating and a toothpick.
  • Add fringe with a toothpick dipped in the coating black candy to draw the hair. This will tie in the eyes of licorice pieces, too.
  • Then point on the nose and ears with more flesh colored candy coating and make her hair band by pulling the red candy coating.
  • Tell her soft little cheeks by brushing on dry pink luster dust.

now, Agnes would not be complete without his favorite stuffed animal.

Unicorn Cake Pops

There is so soft !!!!! Or delicious in this case.

Candies

For the unicorn, I used candy corn ... sixlets to eyes and hair, sunflower seeds for the ears and the sprinkles of confetti for languages.

Let me show you.

Unicorn candy corn horns

For the unicorn horn, I had some candy corn pastel color and cut them in half. Then I painted the background with gold luster dust. Paint the useful fund is first so you do not get the luster dust on the head if you paint them after they are soaked. And you can use other colors of candy corn, too, since you are painting over them.

Unicorns

The ears were sunflower seeds attached to the cake form of ball, when they were soaked created an overall shape.

After soaking, immediately fix the horns, eyes and insert language.

Once dry, attach to the back sixlets hair using melted dark pink lining. The sixlets work hard and give the hair substance.

Then you can finish painting the horns with the luster dust.

Unicorn

To make them more as a principal with the pink coating (Merckens brand) and draw on the surface of the sweets. Drag the toothpick through to simulate hair.

Unicorn Cake Pops

Voila. Unicorns with large voluminous manes.

Want to see one more.

Did you know there are new servants in this film. those evil. Eeek.

Evil Minion Cake Pops

I have not done one of these, but it's basically the same idea as the yellow minions, but with different colors, gnarly teeth and wild hair.
