Valentine Day Cake Pops

Valentine Day Cake Pops -
IMG_507
I've made some cake pops that look like conversation hearts, using pastel coatings candy and a heart-shaped knife. They are in my book Cake Pops. But this weekend, I wanted to try using real candy conversation heart to make great look cute teddy bear.

Awe. Some.

These are great conversation heart candies. Not smaller than you usually see. They are about 1 inch tall and just the right size to place in front of the belly of the teddy bear. (Found at Hobby Lobby craft store in passing.)

I am also already teddy bear cake pops. They are in the book, too. But they are not the whole body ... just the head.
So to them I thought Hershey Kisses would make perfect legs. perfect enough to look like a stuffed doll anyway.
In her arms, her legs before ... I used brown candy M & M. I could have used a slightly larger candy, but they were quite close to the color of kisses and candy chocolate coating that I used for the body, so I rode with him. In addition, it is all that I had on hand was close enough to work and also watch as he held the heart.

For the rest of the details that I was following ...

larger jumbo heart sprinkles on legs.
black sunflower seeds coated for the nose.
black sugar pearls for eyes
An edible black ink pen to smile.
Oh and the chocolate chips to help shape the bear structure. (FYI - These are chips Ghiradelli They are Chocolate Chunk and worked very well since I was going for the big ears They are also a little flat, so they are not too sharp when placed in position for the nose ...)

After deploying your cake balls (see cake pop basic instructions here), cold in the freezer to get them firm and easy to shape. Take your ball and shape much like a peanut. Use your candy heart to press forward and flatten the belly of the bear on the bottom half.
melt the chocolate candy coating. Dip the rim of two chocolate chips into the melted coating and insert it in the form of pop bear cake for the ears. Attach a third bullet in the front face of the bear to help her nose a bit beyond. Insert your lollipop stick in the coating and insert halfway into the cake shaped ball. Return to the freezer pops to further strengthen for only a few minutes.
After cooling, soak the whole body into the bowl with melted candy coating. Make sure the bowl is deep enough to dive and take in one motion. The coating should be thin enough to completely cover the pop without having to stir into the bowl.
Tap gently to remove any excess coating. Attach the nose, the heart of the conversation and legs while the coating is still wet.
Place in a Styrofoam block to dry.
Once dry, you can soak your toothpick into some of the remaining melted coating and dot some position for the eyes. Then simply connect the sugar pearls. Dot some on the legs and attach jumbo heart sprinkles. Apply some coating on one side of M & M candies and attach to the body so that they seem to keep hearts.
Then just shoot some sweet smiles.
Voila. Bear Huggable adorable.
