Mini monsters cakes are on the menu today. is easy enough True, these are small diaper cakes cupcake Bitty all dressed up and ready for Halloween.
to do. I used this recipe chocolate cake. It gives 18 cupcakes or 9 mini monster cakes
About half the cookies baked, remove the tops of the mounds using a knife
to assemble: .. UnWrap cupcakes and place a small cut cake, top side down on a piece of 4X4 inch wax paper. Next, spread a little icing on the bottom and place another small cake on top, right side up as shown in the photos above. Frost the sides and top with buttercream cupcakes holding together between your fingers and the wax paper. Apply the glaze on the side and turn up ... then covered the top gel. This will be your coat crumbs, so do not worry about stains cake mixes in your icing because you will cover that later.
Place in the freezer to firm up for easier handling. You can also add a second layer of frosting to create more cylindrical shapes like as I have done in the fourth photo. Make sure the cookies are cooled and firm to the touch before decorating or you'll have a mess on your hands.
To decorate, whisk slightly tinted frosting in fun colors and use different tips for different effects.
You can use this recipe with butter. You will need three lots ... maybe four if you make all 9 mini cakes.
This guy is a little thorny. I used a # 12 round tip to pipe rows around the cake from the bottom and work my way.
The eye is made of two halves of regular biscuits and mini-size Oreo attached with frosting.
Oh yeah ... before frosting, place the mini cake on a doily 4 inches, then a piece of cardboard so you can rotate for decoration and for transportation.
I used a grass tip (# 233) for it. You can work with two different icing colors for a fun furry effect. Just pipe in random shapes by ensuring obtain colors close to each other so that the white crumb coat does not show below.
In the mouth, cut a half ... Oreo cookie in half ... and then on top of the icing. Then pipe frosting over it then overlaps the top of the mouth. Make sure it has more candy eyes so he could see how cute he is.
And throw on some cute bone candy to top it. But really ... you can use all the candy you have on hand and just be creative with different designs. That's the fun part. The possibilities are endless.
This is covered in tons of candy eyes. I used a trick # 21 Pipeline and around the base. In places where I wanted my eyes, I Piped in a circular room leaving the eye to sit. This is mainly so I do not have a bunch of orange frosting, squishing around the eye when I shook up. But ... maybe it would look all monstery-cute, too.
I love how it turned out ... a little hairy and ragged looking. This is done with a basket weave tip (# 48)
When you put the eye in position and then just ride the icing on top so it seems built.
Oh yeah - it's easy. I have not used a decorative tip. Instead I applied a thin layer of green frosting, then cover the cake with my green candy shred. So spooky cute!
You can give them little signs to hold, too.
Just wrap tape washi around a toothpick and cut into triangular pennants for.
super easy.
Hopefully these minis make you smile.
Enjoy!
