Paper Straws

Paper Straws -

IMG_5348

I bought the softest paper straws striped pink and the other day I could not wait any longer to play with them.

Every time I see striped straws used, they make me smile. They just make me happy.

And even happier in these cupcakes nickname milkshake. Milkcakes someone? Cupshakes perhaps?

strawberry cake for the jerk (I just use a mixture that I had on hand)
ganache chocolate syrup (recipe on this post)
for buttercream icing whipped cream (recipe this post)
Gumballs for cherries
and water for the noodles :)

You can also simply use the syrup to the syrup and whipped cream whipped cream, but this way, they won 't fade.

I used these clear silicone baking cups so that they represent little frosted glass and also allows to see the color of the cake. I found them at Crate and Barrel there awhile. They were perfect for this project.

Place the cups on a baking sheet and fill halfway cups with cake batter. You do not want them cooking too full because you want to have a little space for the ganache.

ganache I love by the way ... By the spoon ... By the bowlful. Who is with me?

IMG_5388

These cuts are great because they are sturdy and hold the weight of the ganache filled to the rim. This way, when you add the icing, you can still see a layer of "chocolate syrup" below. Gives them a nicer look.

See. Let the ganache rest a bit before filling the cups and spoon a little right on top of each cupcake. Let stand a few minutes. It will harden a bit and make adding the icing easier.

For the frosting, I used a Wilton 2D and advanced control tower on top of the cake. Add sprinkles after each cupcake pipe then they will stick immediately.

Finally a cut straw paper in half and insert it into the cupcake and top it off with a big red gumball.

Perty.

speaking of vermicelli. I would like to give a big hip hip hurray for Mr. Sprinkles. He's back in full color ... different label, but colorful. If you followed the site for a while, you may remember when they went to do all natural colors. Mr. Sprinkles just does not look right in dull colors. But he's back. Now if I can get them to do the original colors. They were / are my favorite waters to use for my pops cupcake. Pastel and perfectly delicate. Check out this old post if you want to see what I mean.

Meanwhile, you still I Heart Mr. Sprinkles. You helped to make these super cute little cakes.
